[Good vs. Evil in Gaming]

The new MMORPG City of Heroes is slated for release on Tuesday, April 27 th . In reading about the game and actually watching a few of my friends try the beta test I was a little intrigued. I have been shying away from the MMORPG scene for a while because of the bust I felt with Star Wars: Galaxies (it was more work to play than actual fun), but now I am considering a come back tour. Like every school aged boy I loved super heroes and comic books. Having the ability to play as one in a video game sounds like a good time, however, recently NCSoft released their E3 line-up and that got me even more excited. NCSoft has said that they are planning to show off a new expansion to City of Heroes during E3 called: City of Villains.

I don't really know what it is about being the bad guy that I always loved. For some reason I think I would get so much more enjoyment playing as the evil character rather than the good one. It has always been that way with me whenever I got to choose the good side or the bad side in videogames. When I played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I had to be on the dark side, and that has been the same throughout most of the games I have played. I wonder what drives us to want to be evil and want to be the bad guy? Is it because we really want to do that in real life, but can't? Or is it because we think that being the bad guy is just that much more fun…
