I have learned a lot about games in the past months as part of this team that tries to run a video game website. We use a very cool service called Gamerang to get games to us fast and let us send them back when we are done. They don't give us anything and, yeah, we still pay for their service. Anyway, as of late no game has really stirred me to play it for hours on end. Some of the games I have tried are Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Wrath Unleashed, Counterstrike, Unreal 2, and Rainbow Six 3. It just seems that everything is a just a clone of another, maybe I read to far into the genre and think they are all the same or maybe I just need something different. In the next few days I will be starting up Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and I hope that will give me a boost in the video game department. I do look ahead to games like Fable and Halo 2 and many others. It is unfortunate because it seems like we are in a video game rut while everyone gears up for E3. If you have any games that you really love that you think I should try there is a thread here to post and I will give them a try.
I read a lot of gaming news and somewhere I came across an article that said the Army is thinking of making a MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) that can be used as a training tool. In the game players or members of the armed forces will learn how to move their troops and deal with problems that arise. Well doesn't this bring back memories of Ender's Game and The Last Starfighter. Are they going to release it and then have a tournament where the winner gets to go to war? Anyway, the Army has already targeted the FPS (First Person Shooter) demographic (males age 14-30) by releasing the free games Americas Army and Americas Army: Special Forces. These are free to download and play so there really is no reason to not give them a try. Whether this is a way to train possible recruits or an attempt to get noticed by those guys who need a job and think “Maybe a colt fires like that in real life.” The Army has it out for us video game players and this might be because we would make great medics and surgeons (read Seth's Personal Log) or because we are the target demographic to get recruits.
